Arthur Bohard , 90, of Fort Myers FL, formerly of Frackville, died Tuesday October 17, 2017 at Manor Care Health Services, Pottsville.
Born in Frackville, January 11, 1927, He was a son of Levi and Elizabeth (Schachter) Bohard.
He was the husband of Bernice C. (Chukusky) Bohard to whom he was married 63 years.
Art led a full and storied life. He was a three time all-state baseball player at Frackville High School. He was a Graduate of Frackville High School and the Pennsylvania State University, where he played baseball. As a seventeen year old pitcher, he set a record as part of the youngest battery to ever letter at Penn State.
Art served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On August 5, 1945 his company was ordered to board a ship in San Francisco to be in on the invasion of Japan, but was recalled when the war ended. Art was then sent to the University of Pennsylvania to study Japanese and served as a Japanese interpreter.
After an Honorable discharge from the Army, Art accepted a contract to pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates. After retiring from his baseball career, Art entered the family clothing business where he worked 60 years before retiring to Florida.
Art served as President of the Frackville School District Board of Directors, North Schuylkill School District Board of Directors The Pennsylvania State University Board of Directors and President of the Ashland State Hospital Board of Directors.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Jerry Wolman Chapter; Frackville Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1533, Frackville Masonic Lodge #737; Frackville Rotary and many other civic organizations too numerous to mention.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Michele Bohard on January 29, 2017.
In addition to his loving wife, Bernice; two sons, Lee Bohard and Mary Schaeffer of Schuylkill Haven and Steve Bohard and his wife Judy of Nazareth; Two Grandchildren, Eli Bohard and Rebecca Bohard; sister Elsie Cohn and her husband Marty of Sarasota, FL; Nieces and Nephews.
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday November 5, 2017 from Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc. 9 N. Lehigh Ave Frackville with Rabbi Seth Phillips officiating Friends may call from Noon until the time of the services.
