Emil Steve (Stretch) Plachko, 85, of St. Clair, died Wednesday Nov. 15, 2017 at his residence in St. Clair.
Born in St. Clair, May 25, 1932, He was a son of the late Stephen and Mary (Tomko) Plachko.
Stretch was a 1950 graduate of St. Clair High School, where he excelled at football and basketball. During his sophomore year in high school, his basketball Coach, Daw Miller, nicknamed him "Stretch" and the name remained with him throughout his life. He said "Not too many people knew me by my first name, Emil". Following High School he attended Potterville Junior College in California to play football and basketball.
Stretch served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He retired from Argo Mills. Earlier he enjoyed being a youth sports coach of Little League and Bitty Basketball. He loved the casinos and enjoyed going to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and local PA casinos.
He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and presently is a member of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, St. Clair; The Allen-Rogowicz Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame; St. Clair Fish & Game Association; Mechanicsville Game & Fish; American Legion Post 719, St. Clair; St. Clair Old Timer's Baseball Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Stadnik) Plachko, daughter Sharon (Plachko) Lorimer , brother John "Jack" Plachko.
Surviving are 2 daughters Karen Plachko and her Fiancé James McNitt and Diane Angst and her husband Roy; sister Dorothy Jaskierski and sister-in-law Ann Plachko of St. Clair; 3 grandchildren Dustan, Bradley and Courtney Lorimer; Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday Nov. 18, 2017 from Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 North Second Street St. Clair.. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM from Immaculate Conception Church 6 Caroline Ave. St. Clair with Msgr. William Glosser officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday and 9:30 AM-10:00AM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Clare of Assisi Memorial Fund 250 E. Hancock St. St. Clair, PA 17970. Burial with military honors will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
