George “Frannie Warner” Barnes, 85, of 528 East Lawton Street, St. Clair, died Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, PA. Born in Pottsville, June 14, 1931, he was a son of the late George and Agnes (Warner) Barnes.
George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired as the Lehighton Maintainer and Signalman for Conrail. He was a member of St. Clair Veterans’ Honor Guard and was a dedicated 62 year continuous member of the St. Clair American Legion Post 719.
Preceding him in death was his beloved sister Mary “Babs” Hughes.
Surviving are his wife Helen (Stablum) Barnes; 3 daughters, Lisa Barnes and her husband Mohamed Benchaib of Pottsville, Kim Lukacz and her husband Michael of Cressona, Lori Maley and her husband Tom of Schuylkill Haven; 2 brothers, Jerry Barnes of Mertztown, Earl Barnes of Diener’s Hill; 2 granddaughters, Lauren and Rachel Lukacz; 2 grandsons, Tyler and Zachary Maley; and his best friends Thumper and Josephine.
Celebration of a joyous life will be held at 8 PM Thursday at Bruce T. Hart Funeral Home, 110 North Second St., St. Clair, PA. Friends may visit Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, and Friday 9:00 – 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary's RC Cemetery, Arnot’s Addition. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hillside SPCA , PO Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.
