John Kopina, 92, of Frackville, passed away Saturday August 19, 2023 at Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg.
Born in Frackville, September 11, 1930, he was a son of the late Michael and Meri (Hafinak) Kopina.
He was a 1948 graduate of West Mahanoy Township High School. His classmates remembered John as one of the smartest boys in the class and just as unobtrusive as his small stature. He never had much to say and was always ready to serve when asked. John remained a gentleman and a gentle man throughout his life.
John Kopina proudly served in the US Marines during the Korean War as a Sharp Shooter and was a 3-star Korean War Medal Recipient.
Prior to opening his successful business, Kopina’s Auto Electric, he worked at Seitzinger Motors, Frackville.
He was a member of Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, Frackville.
John was preceded in death by three sisters Catherine Kalbach, Margaret Regan and Irene Kunigonis and step-siblings, Mamie Jurick, Helen Carey, Anna McDonald, Olga Stednitz and Michael Kopina.
Surviving are his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
His family thanks his many neighbors, friends, and the professionals who helped him.
Graveside Services with military honors will be Thursday August 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made to Community Services for Sight, 4 Brookhill Road, Sugarloaf, PA 19249.
