Joseph D. "Yank" Yankiewicz, 71, of Frackville, passed away Wednesday August 26th in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Ashland, June 14, 1944, He was a son of the late Joseph J. and Dorothy (Mack) Yankiewicz and grew up in the Catholic Faith.
A star football player, Yank graduated from Shenandoah Catholic High School and was soon off to the Navy to serve our great nation as a Vietnam War Veteran.
After his Navy service, Yank continued to give back to his community by coaching Little League Baseball and Pee Wee Football, winning multiple championships.
Passionate about hunting and fishing he joyfully shared this pastime with his sons, stepson and grandson and maintained memberships in South End Field and Stream, Broad Mountain Archery Club, Park Crest Fish and Game, Buck Busters Hunting Club and the Pumpy Preservation Association.
In later years, Yank was often found combing the forest for " Hen-of-the wood " mushrooms and enjoying spirited conversation at Prosick's Garage.
He was preceded in death by son Brian "Moose" Yankiewicz.
Surviving are his wife Joni Hinkle Yankiewicz of Frackville; a daughter Lisa Dillman and her husband William of Orwigsburg; son Derek Yankiewicz of Frackville; a Sister Anne Vernusky and her husband Frank of Frackville; Stepson Michael Mock and his wife Bonnie of Auburn; Step Daughter Michelle Smith and her husband Jeff of IA; grandchildren Zackery Yankiewicz and his wife Jessica of Allentown; Connor and Brooke Dillman of Orwigsburg; step-grandchildren Marissa of Frackville and Ashley Mock of Auburn; Nieces and Nephews.
He will be sorely missed by his mini-pinscher, Precious.
Private Services will be held at the Convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076. Burial with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Shenandoah.
