Joseph T. Butswinkas, 75, of Ashland, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at his home. Born in Frackville, Pennsylvania on November 7, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Luzusky) Butswinkas. He is a graduate of Frackville High School, where he excelled at both baseball and basketball. He received his engineering degree from St. Leo’s University. He was a Vietnam Veteran and had a distinguished and decorated career in the United States Navy, from which he proudly retired at the rank of Warrant Officer (the highest rank attainable for enlisted servicemen). After retirement from the Navy, he worked as a Senior Quality Engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding and later at Siemens Automotive in Newport News, Virginia. He was a spectacular chef, an avid fisherman, and a frequently distraught Philadelphia Eagles fan. He will be missed greatly by his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost fifty years, Jan (Shackelford) Butswinkas. He is survived by his son Dane Butswinkas and a daughter-in-law Megan Rupp, both of Chevy Chase, Maryland; grandsons Joseph Butswinkas and John Bailey Butswinkas; sisters Rose Marie Grubb and Judy Zimmerman; brother Richard Butswinkas; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016, at 7:00 PM at the Nice-Hart Funeral Home, Inc. located at 9 North Lehigh Avenue, Frackville, PA 17931. Deacon John Setlock will be officiating. Friends and family may visit from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial with full Military Honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
