Nellie Hess, 97, formally of St. Clair, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2015 at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.
Born in St. Clair, May 2, 1918, She was a daughter of the late Ralph Peletsky ( Peleckis ) and Anna (Meldazis) Peletsky Ross.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hess, brother Joseph Peletsky, sisters Eleanor Menchey and Mary Galarus.
Surviving are her three children, James R Hess and wife, Peg (Conroy), Pine Grove, Judy Burns and her husband, Tom, Newark, DE and Nancy Lenhart, Harrison Valley, PA; seven grandchildren, Erica Ramus, Lisa Hale, Kim Howell, Kevin Burns, Michelle Garrison, Sean Berkheiser and Jennifer Wojszwillo; thirteen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Nellie retired as a blindstitcher from the garment industry. In retirement Nellie was able to spend more time with her family whom she loved dearly. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and reading. Nellie was a member of St Clare of Assisi, Roman Catholic Church, St. Clair.
Nellie spent her recent years in Schuylkill Center, Pottsville where she was known for reaching out and helping those in need while there. She was a certified and active Peer Counselor at the Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Saturday from St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 250 E. Hancock St. St. Clair. The Rev. Msgr. William F. Glosser will be officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 AM – noon Saturday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Clare of Assisi Memorial Fund. Interment will be in Queen of the Universe Cemetery, Norwegian Twp.
